Daniel Nelson ~ Youth Support Specialist
Dan joined the OISYS team January of 2017 with a background in residential adolescent care and outpatient trauma informed psychotherapy. Dan attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor emphasis in Nonverbal Communication. After working at an adolescent group home for two years, Dan transitioned to working in a clinic setting where he was able to practice different clinical applications that involved intensive trauma informed group psychotherapy. This experience has helped Dan connect with O-I-See assigned youth, now in a one-to-one setting, to discover solutions to some of life's biggest challenges.
As a self-taught painter, Dan has learned to view the world through multiple perspectives and express his creativity through various works of art. Dan uses these skills while working with youth to help them build connections within their communities and expand upon their own unique creative passions. Additionally, Dan uses his knowledge to help his youth see the world through various different viewpoints, allowing them to expand upon and increase their appreciation for different aspects within their lives that may otherwise go unnoticed.
In his spare time, Dan enjoys watching a good movie with his friends and going camping in the woods during the summer months. He loves all animals, and he especially enjoys visiting his family that includes playing with his dog and six cats.
