Reid Johnson ~ Youth Support Specialist
Reid joined the OISYS team the fall of 2018, with experience in youth programs focused on providing a safe environment for youth to grow in various aspects of their lives. He studied at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. During his time there, he participated in Blugold Beginnings, a program to help students towards higher education. Reid also spent a year in Sweden, where he participated in two programs assisting youth. One program called Powerhouse, where youth would spend their Fridays in a safe space to socialize with peers and adults. The second program was a basketball outreach for refugees from Afghanistan. His studies at UW-Eau Claire, and his experience with youth, have helped prepare him to work with OISYS assigned youth on their personal journeys.
Reid believes that each individual has a great amount of potential to grow, achieve their goals/dreams, and to help the world become a more positive place. He believes that it is often our own fears and doubts that keep us from reaching our full potential. It is his passion to help individuals, especially youth, move beyond their owns fears, and to discover a new level of abilities. He has found that conversation, sports, and the arts are great activities to help inspire confidence in oneself, and to learn valuable life skills towards this.
With his free time, Reid enjoys visiting local areas, taking photographs, learning to play guitar, and listening to music. He believes that being in nature can be a very healing experience. He has also found that exploring ones creativity helps in a multitude of areas from self-expression to connection with others. He hopes to use these areas of interest to help connect with youth, and to encourage them on their path.
